OK, now Max could say with a FAIR AMOUNT OF CERTAIN, in which it goes FAR beyond the acceptable on the scope of the SURENESS, that THIS was the most disturbing, horrifying, creepy and sinister vision he ever had in his entire life.
“M-m-m-m-m-m-Meryl…”
Meryl was dumbfolded. Their eyes switched between looking at the scene with the higher of the horrors and extreme fascination. Maybe a combination of both.
“this is fascinant! creepy, but fascinant!”
And, to Max’s surprise, a smile crossed their face, as they proceeded to speak in a proud, self-confident tone:
“i knew it! i knew it had a logical explanation!”
Max was speechless. Their otherselves (ghosts?? demons?? hallucinations????) were already gone, but he was DAMN sure he had seen them, and DOUBLE DAMN SURE they were HERE, WATCHING FROM THE PEEPHOLE.
How was there anything logical was BEYOND Max’s comprehension.
“Do you know what any of this means?”
And Meryl the Mole, doing an extremely faithful impression of Meryl the Mole, said in a very smart tone:
“hohoHO! i just SO HAPPEN TO KNOW, indeed!”
