MEMORIES

Meryl helped him to get up.

“it is meryl, just so you know. meryl the mole. please never scare me again, you might be REEEALY unlucky next time.”

“Glup. I’ll guard this information. Nice to meet you, Meryl the Mole. As previously mentioned, I am Mr. Rabbit.”

Meryl smiled gently.

“yeah, i read your note. thanks for the pumpkin, by the way, it was a nice gesture (not the scare thing, that was just dumb).”

“Hoho! I’m glad you appreciated it! You see, I plant pumpkins for living. They serve various purposes for me, depending on what the current situation demands, but I believe this is the first time I had used one as a gift. What a wonderful thing, isn’t it?”

“it sure is. do you really live in the grimmore forest? dude, that place is cursed. are you dumb, or just suicidal? please enlight me with the answer for this pertinent question.”

“Ah, it truly is a dark place, but what can I do? It is the only place in the land where the trees still grow strong. A rabbit cannot make their burrow in the plains, it is too open, too dangerous! So I had to resort to the worst-case scenario, which in this case was to find a home inside the cursed bosk. Oh, don’t even ask me about the full moon nights! The noises that can be heard shouldn’t be listened to any living creature child of the Graces. Sounds from hell, the most disturbing you could ever imagine, but ten times worse. Hoho, but I’m already used to them. Besides, from the forest I take my nourishment, and for this I’m grateful.”

Well, they couldn’t argumentate against that. Despite not in need of feeding themself, they could relate to Mr. Rabbit’s feeling of not belonging, and the wanting for a place to call home. That was why they decided to built their own home, to begin with.

It never felt familiar to live anywhere else in that world. They had to make it themself.

“i suppose it makes sense. have you ever encountered a wolf?”

“Hoho, many times already!”

And he says the next phrase with a mysterious tone:

But I have my ways…”

Meryl doesn’t know how to respond to that, so they just say:

“…yeah.”
