In an attempt to break the freezed ice of awkwardness that had been created by the abrupt end of that conversation, Meryl proceeds to do the most logical course of action, which is to say goodbye and call it a day.
“sooooooo. nice talk! nice to meet you. come here sometime, and maybe the doors will be open, and so my patience. no promises, of course. goodnight!”
But Mr. Rabbit seemed to have one more thing to say, as he gently yet quickly intercepted their course of action.
“Ho, wait a minute, my fellow!”
Meryl wasn’t exactly with the patience enough for more chit chat, but they educatedly asked regardless:
“…yes?”
Oddly, he seemed to be hesitant.
“You see…”
“i see…?”
“It is a LOOOOONG way back to the Forest.”
To which Meryl proceeded to respond with a sarcastic, joyful smile:
“hoho, it sure is! good graces i live faaar away from it! i wouldn’t want to wear the skin of the one who might have to walk all their way back to there now.”
“If they only had a nice, kind-hearted friend, with a nice, warm-heated house available…”
“gosh, they would be really luck if that was the case! too bad i don’t know neither of them. hoho, how sad. goodnight, mr. rabbit!”
And Meryl the Mole closed the door.
