THE CURSE

Max had tears in his eyes.

This certainly couldn’t be happening. God, please.

Mr. Rabbit finished with a resolute whisper:

“That’s why… you must leave, Max. Return to your home, to your beloved Mom. And let this dream to finally end.”

Max sobbed in negation.

“N-NO! I won’t let you here! I… I will save you, Mr. Rabbit! I will use Thelesis to cure you!”

Mr. Rabbit laughed, febrite.

“Hoho, don’t waste a good wish on an oldie like me. You are still young, you have a whole life ahead of you.

Me? I already lived enough.

I had my adventures, my sleepovers and my camping nights. And I was blessed by the Graces to have one last adventure, the greatest of my life.”

He smiled, first to Meryl, then to Max.

“I met a wonderful friend. And I had fun! Hoho, how I had fun, like we never had in years, huh, Meryl?

It is my time to rest, now. It happens, it is natural.”

Max was still crying, still shaking.

“Max.

“Max, look at me.”
