O SABOR BRASILEIRO!

The winter has arrived! Well, it technically arrived about one month ago, but this fact has slipped my mind while writing last month’s post. Ops.

Anyway, it is really cold here! Now I want you to imagine me waking up everyday at 4am to get the bus to work. Yeah, dawg, not cool. Ah, to be an adult.

So this month was a mix of “time is flying frighteningly fast” with “lots of things happened like what”. I ended up with lots of things to write about, so I hope you enjoy this unusually longer post :D

> Before we start, a little ramble first

Whenever I read other people’s blogs, I’m always enchanted by their writing, their smooth ease with the words. I envy people who can articulate their thoughts eloquently, which is something I find quite difficult to do, even though sometimes I do have lots of things to say. Does my writing feel insincere right now? I guess so. Maybe it’s just a matter of practice.

Ok so back to Winter. It’s my favourite season, although my allergies get pretty crazy this time of the year. There will always be an specific day of the month where I’ll wake up as messed as an yarn ball which’ve been just attacked by a furious cat, and for the rest of the day I’m pretty much a walking corpse, sniffling, coughing and snizzling, but ultimately refusing to go back to bed, stubbornely fighting the throbbing headache in favor of writing another musical note. By the end of the day, my eyes are so heavy that whenever I close them tears roll down my face, as my brain begs in agony, until I fall dead on bed, my body relieved. Then in the next day I’m fully healed, as if nothing had happened at all. The human body sure is weird.

I like cold. I like the serenity of a winter morning. I love the gorgeous sensation of a hot sip of tea warming the throat, hands slightly burning. I only wish we had snow here. I heard that there is snow in the country’s south, but not as much to like, fill the streets with those endless white carpets I see in cartoons. How I wish I could be in one of those old Peanuts Holidays-themed episodes. Bangin’ jazz playing at the background all day, man.

Last week I bought Tamagotchis for my little brothers as a gift (they’ve been asking me for gifts ever since I began working, like it was an important rite of passage of getting a job or something like that). I couldn’t resist the temptation of buying one for me, so that’s what I did. Guys, meet Sue.

Look at their face lol.

It’s not an actual Tamagotchi, though (those things are expensive!!), but rather a “BunnyROM”, as they call it. They’re like, cheap ripoffs, and from what it seems, way more simpler ones.

It’s been nice! Everyone at my work thought it was cute, and nostalgic as well. I remember getting one for Christmas when I was a kid. The only problem was that, since I studied all day, everytime I’d get home it was dead LOL.

The only problem I have with BunnyROM is that for whatever reason it just randomly decides to reset itself at some point (it doesn’t help the RESET button is awfully positioned right at the middle). This is like, Sue’s 5th reincarnation by now. Hopefully they’re not remembering RESETs… that’d be horrible.

A new chapter of Alcohol and Ogre-Girls was uploaded, and I feel the urge to ramble about it.

It was the mandatory hot-spring chapter, so you bet it has all the snarky “fan-service” as per usual. That’s why I always keep my phone’s brightness at the * l o w e s t * , to avert possible embarassments. I think such tropes might be enjoyable for most people, but personally I just find them really unnecesessary? Like they’re there only to fill an *specific* pool, and could perfectly be cut out with no changes to the story. But maybe there are some people who may think tropes I find enjoyable are as ridiculous as the ones I’m pointing my finger at, so I guess I must resign to a little bit of fan-service, at the end.

The chapter per se was really good. Naori and Hinata’s relationship is growing stronger, but we’re currently at that awkward mid-point, one step left from confession but far further from the safeness of friend-zone, so now whatever thing you say or do floats in the air in a pretty weird, silly way. It is funny, but also anxiety-inducing as hell, specially considering how far from each other the updates are. I don’t know if my heart can handle such long waits, guys. I need more sugar TmT.

> A … soda review?

A recent conversation with my friend WizWag has brought my mind to the ancient days, the times of cable TVs and watching Static Shock on SBT, the famous brazillian tv network. And a blurry image flashed in my mind. A name. A song. A whisper:

“Dolly”.

After mentioning the existence of such (in)famous brazillian soda to my friend, I was faced with the furious urge to spend my (supposed to be saved) money in useless shit online, so that’s what I did. As I’m writing this, hands shaking with anxiety to taste the glorious beverage before me, I cannot help but to reflect on the life choices that brought me right at this moment.

Welcome to my first (and last) CHIPY’S SODA REVIEWS. Today’s guest: the one, the only, Dolly Guaraná!

The moment of truth awaits. It’s now or never. I’m opening the bottle now. No turn back.

> THE AFTERMATH

Holy Mother of Sacred Sweet Shit. It’s… indescritible. My mind is now filled with stereoptycal brazillian imagery, exploding all at once, no stop. Soccer balls, samba, funk carioca and Chico Buarque. The holy words whispered out of my mouth involuntarily: “O sabor brasileiro”.

The brazillian flavour.

It is glorious.

Ok, dropping the shit out, it’s just normal Guaraná lol. It has a sweetish flavour at first contact, but overall it’s just cheap soda (((…c h e a p ???))). But now I find myself seriously considering to choose Dolly as my standard soda choice, both ironically and unironically. Let’s be honest, that would be funny as hell. Also, it’s not THAT bad.

The best 40 brazillian reais ever spent. Fax.

> Ok, now some ACTUAL interesting stuff

So recently I’ve been working on a new musical album. As said in the previous post, it is a SNES inspired soundtrack for an imaginary JRPG game. Production is going pretty well! I’ve already traced a line to the whole thing, and I feel composing songs for it is getting easier yet easier. I’m keeping small updates on my youtube channel, so you might wanna check later to get some sweet news. As promissed, here are some demos I’ve been working on (changes may occur, so if it sounds like trash don’t worry, it will probably be better when the album comes out!).

I’m working the hardest I ever worked in my life, because I feel like this is going to be something truly special. It already is, for me…

I don’t know how long it’s gonna take to make this. It is a far more ambitious project than everything I’ve ever done. But I’m truly excited with this album! So I hope the wait may be worth it. :))

> Something beyond special

On the topic of music, I’m honored to present a collab I made with LuminousVale, called Love-Colored Waltz.

Luminous’s awesome videogame remixes have been such a huge inspiration since I found them around last year. Their beautiful, dreamlike instrumentation, colorful mixing and palatable sound pallete made them one of my favourite artists by far. One day I was notified that they were following me on Twitter, so I sent an email suggesting a collab. They agreed and I sent a raw MIDI of a Touhou-inspired song I wrote some time ago. Luminous quickly responded with not one, but two awesome versions of the song (both included in the video). They took the freedom to write their own melodies, as well editing the whole stuff to flow better, and the end result nothing but incredible. I’m beyond honored to have such a tiny, humble song of mine powered up by Luminous rad skills. Please, go listen to the song, and make sure to check Luminous’s channel as well. I personally recommend their Bein’ Friends Remix (it’s my favourite one ^^).

The beautiful Marisa x Patchouli artwork was made by the wonderful Wasongo, as a part of an art trade we did a while ago. I made a song for his website’s main page, and he drew this magnificent piece in exchange. I adore Marisa and Patchouli, and made the song specifically for the ship (and requested the drawing specifically for the song).

Being able to make these little collaborations has filled me with joy and proud. I’ve been making music for almost 3 years now, and while still there’s a lot to learn and improve (and there will be, forever), I feel like I’ve finally reached a point where I can confidently call myself a “composer”, which sure is rewarding TvT.

> Closing thoughts

I think you can say that July was a pretty exciting month!

Before I go, I shamefully must say this month TALKIES shall be delayed for a while. It’s still coming (the next guest is already picked ^^), but with all the crazy stuff that happened and the lotta music work I’ve been making, I got no time to prepare questions for my interviewee TvT I’m gonna try to upload it as soon as possible! Thanks for the patience.

Also, the Mother Retrospective is getting out ‘til the end of the month, I promise TvT

And with that said, it is now time for me to say bye. I hope you have a nice August! I want to work more on stuff here this month, so stay tuned for the next updates ;))

Have a nice day!
